    To exercise our rights and freedoms is tantamount to "giving away our rights and freedoms".

    That's textbook Orwellian doublespeak right there.

      The religious right believes that religious freedom consists in the freedom to practice the approved religion, and nothing more. The thing is, they all think that they will be the official state religion when they finally win.

      They quote Patrick Henry a lot. Henry made great contributions to the American Revolution, but when it came to religious freedom, his faction was soundly rejected. He objected to the Constitution's ban on religious tests for public office, claiming it would allow "Jews and Infidels" to hold public office. That was as the founders intended, if the voters wanted to elect someone who was a Jew and/or an infidel, that was their right.
