    •  The red symbol listed as 'paganism' is (7+ / 0-)

an Ankh.  I'm more familiar with Wicca than Paganism so I don't know if this is an accurate choice.  A Pentagram would have been a better symbol for Wicca.

      Ankh

The Ankh, also known as key of life, the key of the Nile or crux ansata, was the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic character that read "eternal life", a triliteral sign for the consonants ˁ-n-ḫ. Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest.

but that version is inadvertently anti-science.  It implies science is a religion, and as such is not compatible with any other religion, since of course faith in one religion precludes practicing any other.

      •  Not all faiths are exclusive (0+ / 0-)

I was a Christian Taoist for a little while (before deciding to be just a Taoist). Probably lots of Christian Buddhists, too.

On the other end of the spectrum, that one imam on the front page was saying that he was Christian, Jewish and Muslim, and possibly putting himself in danger by doing so.

with any kind of religion, by definition.

Science begins with evidence and draws contingent conclusions based upon it. Contrary evidence forces revised conclusions. Science is an open, shared, democratic practice that encourages skepticism and has built-in error correction methods such as peer review, replicability and logical consistency.

Science depends on progress and change and challenging the status quo.

Religion begins with conclusions, cherry-picks supporting evidence, ignores refuting evidence, and makes up evidence when necessary to cling to a belief. Religion is based on handing down revelations and/or practices that provide required instructions that lead to preconceived results. If the results don't match expectations, the revelations are not questioned; rather, it is assumed that one is just "doing it wrong".

Religion depends on conservation and stagnation and preserving the status quo.

They are inherently incompatible - in fact, diametrically opposite - approaches to the world.

      See Wikipedia.

And the transgender "e" may not have fit in the original, since transgenderism is not a religion, but it was always my impression that science isn't supposed to be either.
