  •  BH---agree with your basic premise. However, (8+ / 0-)

we believed that we had an administration that had a handle on messaging, if nothing else.

    And, they don't!! Period!

The rest of the clusterfuck at the GOV level, is simply incompetence: See Luchencho; Browner; Salazar; (early)Thad Allen; and a few others

    •  Oh, I agree. (11+ / 0-)

One of the diaries I wish I had written (maybe still should, but there would likely be a rabid attack on it) is about political organizational dynamics.

This administration wasn't prepared for the deeply-buried sleaze. Oh, they knew they had some, but they didn't know how bad it was, how "disobedience" was managed. The folks who were left in the departments, the plants (and they were plants, IMHO) left by the previous administration, were fully prepared to undermine what they could and the administration came in completely innocent, inexperienced and, IMHO, got hammered. And that's not even addressing the political aspects.

And, as you point out, it's thicker yet because this newbie administration didn't manage the leftovers (e.g. Salazar) well. Right there in the big names is a major communication coordination problem. I doubt they'd all like to tell the same story and it will be a struggle, continual struggle, to get them on the same page.

How dast I speculate thusly? Been there, done that and I could see all the signs. If someone hasn't managed a large entity -- like this administration -- besides their own newbie screw ups, they're going to get tripped up.

Again, not defending to say that poor communications are ok. Plenty of blunder blame to go around and perhaps worse than blunder.

And here's the scary part: another problem somewhere else involving a different federal entity could cause a repeat. Hopefully, the administration will have its act together by then. And, it all fairness, this administration -- and all of us in the world -- could use a little respite from major crises.
