I would consider the yes - tales... as one of the worst albums of all time.   Tales is way overblown, just like most prog rock is.  No Grateful Dead or Jerry Garcia on the list?  Come on.  Thanks to the late great Cowboy Dick Montana for the subject title used by me.

    •  Any Dead Double LP you mean must be a Live LP (1+ / 0-)

and so is disqualified (see diary).

Also, while they're usually pleasant, the only Dead studio LPs I consider truly great are American Beauty & Workingman's Dead.

      •  At Fillmore East is a live LP (5+ / 0-)

Despite your claims about editing. The Dead did a lot of post facto work on their live LP's too, particularly the one that's come to be known as 'Skull and Roses'.

        •  yeah if fillmore east is on the list then (3+ / 0-)

the dead's skull f*** album should be on the list as well.  One of the best album cover's as well.

Eat a peach by my ABB is also a good one. That one had alot of influence on my taste of music.

extreme. But without it, I never could have reduced my list to 30. Also, there are too many sublime double live LPs that I've never even heard, and so wouldn't think to list.

Eat a Peach is another studio/live hybrid, and as such actually gives a fuller view of the Allman Brothers than At Fillmore East.

The dead's skull f*** emblem was a sticker on my first ever bong.

anyway my fave is the basement tapes. nothing like it. Dylan & the Band without a lot of attitude, very funny, great songs, great singing, etc.

godfather of punk was - Iggy Pop? Lou Reed? Captain Beefheart?

In a similar fashion, The Basement Tapes may be the ur-text of Americana.
