  •  It's one of the reasons . . . (4+ / 0-)

we largely quit watching Olbermann.  Every single night, Mr. Aji would turn to me and say, "Why are they giving her all this energy?"

Yes, it's true that occasionally there's a bit of news involving her that we need to know.  But I do NOT need to hear, a hundred million times, every syllable that woman utters, nor do I need to know about the daily antics of Todd, Bristol, Levi, Levi's mom, or anyone else connected with her.  She's the frigging Paris Hilton of politics.

but I make sure to supplement with the foreign news services. Not everyone can get the awesome line up I have, but its always a good idea to check them out online.

      •  A few years ago, we discovered . . . (3+ / 0-)

HDNet News, Mosaic News, and a few others.  We get most of our news online these days, but when we want to watch it on TV, we tend to go for the international outlets now.  And C-SPAN for coverage of political events, presidential speeches, etc.

Here in DC we can get BBC America, al Jazeera (which I usually have on most of the day), Russia Today, EuroNews (in English and French), France 24, South Africa Broadcasting and Hong Kong news. I would also have China, Vietnam and Ethiopia if I could speak the languages.

Before I moved here from Pennsylvania, I stayed up late just to watch Deutsche Welle.

Too often, we get so stuck on our petty squabbles that we forget some truly horrific things happen across the oceans.

I lived in D.C. for a few years, and one thing I really did like was the access to international news.  Fortunately, I can still get it online - although my connection won't usually handle video, so I rely on the written reporting and transcripts.
