I have some friends in MA who are part of the Boston chapter of Asian Pacific Americans for Progress if you want to get in touch with them. It looks like there's going to be a panel with Gov. Patrick and Congressman Mike Honda on Sept. 3 - wish I could be there! Is Deval Patrick facing an uphill battle? I hadn't heard. :(

    •  yes, Deval Patrick is in some trouble (2+ / 0-)

the Massachusetts economy is in bad enough shape that he may succumb to anti-incumbent fever.  though MA is outperforming a lot of other states, we like to think of ourselves as recession-proof up here, and the economic problems have taken a lot of people by surprise who were not affected by previous downturns.

the only thing that could save Patrick is that it is a three way race now.

Tim Cahill, current state Treasurer, primaried Patrick, and when Cahill lost the D primary he decided to run as an independent.  Cahill has big bucks in his campaign war chest, picked a Republicon for his Lt. Governor/running mate, and went to a Tea Party rally in April looking for support.

But local Rs, Scott Brown included, are worried, because so far Cahill seems to be drawing more voters away from the Republicon gubernatorial candidate (Charlie Baker) than from Patrick's base.  Brown was the keynote speaker at the April tbagger event, and in his speech he tied Cahill and Patrick together as "government insiders".

If Cahill and Baker can split the opposition vote Gov. Patrick may be able to sneak through with less than 40% of the vote.  The last Rasmussen poll I saw showed the race Patrick 38%, Baker 32%, Cahill 17%.

I expect to have to open my wallet and hit the bricks hard next month.

Hurricane Earl may make getting to the event difficult on Friday...
