  •  The 10th Amendment doesn't say states' rights. (4+ / 0-)

    Here is what it says.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

I highlighted "powers." There's no mention of "states' rights" anywhere in this. The States have powers, but not the same powers as the ones that are given to the Federal Government in the Constitution.

    States have powers.
The United States ("Federal Government") has another set of powers.
    Individuals have rights.

No States' Rights in the 10th Amendment. Sorry, tenthers.

    •  And indeed it had a very specific purpose (3+ / 0-)

that purpose being to protect the rights of individuals and to empower the states to protect individual rights from an over-reaching federal government.

Its purpose was literally the exact opposite of what the wingnuts delude themselves into believing. But whats new about that.. only wingnuts would use poverty as an argument to attack the poor.. corruption as an excuse to attack the regulators.. the name of christ to attack the people (party) that actually most espouses the beliefs of christ.

And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

actually agree with the Constitution? ;)

That being said, that's an excellent point.  Rights are reserved for citizens (and - apparently - legal fictions commonly referred to as Corporations) powers are delinated to respective bodies of government.
