but with more than a modicum of respect.

Take Africa and the tribal violent atrocities and blood-diamond trade, take Nigeria..

Hell. Take Vietnam in the '60s and early '70's.

It's easy to create an enemy in the media. They're not people. They're numbers.

Especially the part about creating an enemy.

My point is that it seems easier for people to give to those with whom they have a perceived connection. It can be geographic, tribal, whatever. When they don't perceive that connection, it's much easier to pass it by, and to ignore the suffering. I am not sure I understand it, but I note it.

We are about to be attacked by Al Qaeda. Wave flags if you have them. That always seems to scare them away. I'm kidding. - Kurt Vonnegut

A worthy cause and dream indeed.

I'm too old and decrepit these days to envision that two-finger salute these days.

Except when I can. I'm cryptic as hell, and occasionally a charismatic getting out more votes than a campaign manager can dream of yet there's no-one to vote for. Therein lies the rub.

Besides all that.. Dying aged parents take up a lot of my time. It's a "Human thing."

Because I am Muslim alla akhbar!

        No, just Californian..
