Moderate Christians have let themselves be shouted down by right-wing zealots for decades.  And allowing the ascension of the right as the face of Christianity in America is one of the biggest moral failings of mainstream American Christians.   I know that most Christians in this country aren't fundamentalist zealots. I also know that it doesn't matter, because it's the zealots who wield the most influence.  It's the zealots who own the brand, because good, decent, mainstream Christians let them take it over.

This country does not have the luxury to entertain idiocy as if it is reasonable. --Digby
