  •  We are in same boat. (6+ / 0-)

I have health insurance which is going up horrendously this year with way fewer benefits, but hubby does not.  He had a heart attack 3 years ago and we are still trying to pay off that massive debt.  And he needs more tests and probably a sleep study as well.

We can't afford any of this because we cannot afford the skyhigh premiums of the new preexisting condition state pools and we can't pay for the tests either.  Sleep studies are @$2500 per night for a 2 night study.  And the heart tests are worse.

We don't make much $$ in this economy as we are both artisans in a tourist town and tourism has been down for several years now.

We need single payer NOW.  I am so mad at the Administration in DC...thanks Dems ....for nothing.

your hubby. I FEEL for you guys.

Single Payer is definitely the way to go.

My hubby is a Brit/Kiwi mix. His English daughter had a C-Section last yr and was in hospital for a few days. Didn't cost a thing. They also sent a midwife around to the house once a week for a month to answer questions about taking care of baby, checking weight, etc. What a great service!

My Kiwi mother-in-law, had breast cancer a few yrs back. She had private ins at the time. Her private doc said that the best cancer doc on the southern island was part of the national health service. So she dropped her private ins, went with the NHS, got great results, virtually free service....and never went back to the private ins again!

I had a brain tumor and even with my BC ins, had 140,000.00 in unpaid medical bills. (I'm suing BC and the atty is quite confident we'll win)Of course my credit is now ruined, etc. My hubby's fam was shocked at all of this. They'd never actually talked to an American about this stuff. It was completely bizarre and foreign that someone would experience that sort of upheaval, stress and difficulty just because they got sick. They think we are absolutely nuts when it comes to HC.
