  •  independent scientists kept out (7+ / 0-)
was the story in a recent reporting ...where the hell was it now?...
i think it may have been The Progressive or in the recent Mother Jones, or as likely here somewheres..

The point being made was BP has shut out and made it very difficult for independent scientists to research any of this, and with all the hoohaha recently about the dispersal/consumer bacteria, I'm waiting to hear more about that.

Research/believabilty of anything scientific...I mean 'scientific' coming out will be tiresome as all hell for the public and us to parse out.
And isn't that really BP's most basic goal at this point with the public, to create 'reasonable doubt'?
..which works both forensicly and public relations...and aren't they often very much the same thing?

And I'd guess the plume is still out there, because we haven't heard doesn't mean squat.
    It's a BP world.

    •  BP isn't an all controlling overlord (10+ / 0-)

BP can't keep ships from going anywhere. The Coast Guard night have a limited zone of control near the operations zone.

The Coast Guard has established airspace controls over the gulf.

The Coast Guard has established exclusion zones near existing boom to protect them.

Local officials have some controls in their areas and marshes are federally protected.

BP can be blamed for many things and some areas are excluded by BP's request but BP cannot stop or prevent anyone from going anywhere.

you partner with someone in one very much tend to cooperate with that same party in another..

USCG and BP have been partnering on the oil well blowout for a long time..

the Coast Guard has shown deference to BP's interests elsewhere as a result of the psychological aspects of partnering with them on finishing off Gertrude..

      •  sounds good the way you say it :> (6+ / 0-)
Well, I hope you are right, but that's not what people who were complaining about access and lack of it and resources were saying..Coast Guard, mercs, and BP employees and local and state police were interfereing with scientists access.
I'd like to hear about current access, and how it's funded.
