    and according to the Purple Heart regs a concussion is grounds for an award. That's a separate issue from the long term effects. My point is that we should avoid claiming all TBIs from IEDs are severe since it's not a requirement for the Purple Heart that a TBI be 'severe'. Accurate diagnoses are important for treatment and treatment should not be related to Purple Heart status.

      on the Purple Heart thing, I'm just saying that diagnosis may be difficult, and the soldier might be accused of malingering and thus denied the Purple Heart for what is a legitimate injury.
