Just keep him until 2012, when Chris Murphy can run for the Democratic nomination. I don't believe Murphy is vulnerable (even Cook has him at Likely D), and he would really rally the base.

Lieberman can't win in 2012; Democrats hate him, the GOP hates him, and independents hate him. You're out of voters at that point.

People panic too much on this site.

He will issue subpoenas to the WH just like a Republican would, and did during the 90s. He will make all Republican witch hunts look bipartisan.

Is to have the other Democrats on that committee change the rules so that the Chair cannot issue subpoenas without their approval.  Currently the Chair of the Oversight committee can issue supoenas with the permission of the Ranking Member of the minority, which of course Lieberman would get if he decided to engage in one of Issa's upcoming witchhunts.

It's a little more subtle, but could have the same effect of defanging Lieberman without giving him the political cover to become a Republican.

Ironically, the Tea Party may be enough to prevent him doing that.  There's no way he would survive as Republican Senate nominee in any state right now.
