    ....she grew up in London during the Blitz, with the city burning around her night after night. Over twenty thousand died.

    She was very shocked and saddened by 9/11, but as the months and years passed with it constantly talked about and being used as a political excuse for this and that, she lost most of her sympathy. Except in the cases of those who actually lost someone that day, the endless obsession stank of the fake. She complained sometimes that Americans thought they were the only people in the world who had ever suffered a loss.

    If it happened again, I don't think she'd care very much.
