9/11 is something foreign enemies did to the United States.

8/29 is what America did to itself, with a little help from nature.

They have one thing in common- Bush's stupidity - ignoring warnings and doing it "his way" with disastrous results. Both were preventable, and both happened due to Bush's decisions.

Bush was warned about an impending attack- both he and Rice were warned from several sources, and they both ignored the warnings because they were coming from Democrats in the outgoing administration..

Bush was warned about what would happen if the levees broke, but he went ahead and cut the in-progress levee rebuilding funding (SELA) to less than 1/4th for three years. The ACOE is responsible for the levees, but they  can't do anything without money, and Bush took it.

    •  Agree: We did it to ourselves both times. (0+ / 0-)

Or, at least, made it damn easy for foreign enemies and nature to do it to us.

The last time we broke a president, we ended up with Reagan.

"WE". Both were the fault of the administration in power both during September 11th and again when Katrina hit NOLA. I didn't vote for that administration, either in 2000 or 2004. I do not share in the guilt or blame.
During the 9/11 hearings, I think Richard Clarke told the truth when he said, "your government let you down". Because that is exactly what happened in both cases. In 2001, it was the government that didn't actually win the election, or the one that most Americans voted for.

    •  Most of 9/11 damage was not the terrorist attack (1+ / 0-)

It was the exploitation of the attack by our leaders. The damage done by the attack cost around 150 billion to the nation and it's economy. The response to the attack will cost trillions of dollars and we are not done borrowing to cover the cost yet.
