I think you are on to something.

I do think it would help that, when you sit down to talk, that 30 or more people are rallying your issue from the street in an orderly manner.

As a woman over 60, I don't feel that the hard-hearted greedy legislators here in Utah will give me the time of day.  But, with a few more words of encouragement, perhaps I will muster enough to try.

Thank you for your inspiration, Hound Dog.

that these high and mighty congressional heavybottoms will give them the time of day, and I'm pleased to say they WILL.  All that's required is to take your feet and your face to their doorstep and make it clear you want a sitdown appointment with Congressman Porquebarule, and sit down in a chair until you get one.  You pay for their gawddam offices, and they work for YOU.

I had two appointments with Durbin in 2007, and, I ain't no important person with a sack of money.

They'll tell you you can have 15 minutes, but I've always ended up getting 30.  It's important, I think, to have a pleasantly engaging demeanor, and snag their attention, while keeping a LASER POINTER focus on the issues you're bringing for discussion.  Never get angry or irritated; instead, keep the focus on YOUR agenda and don't back down.  When I did this with my stu-pid Repub congress critter (Shimkus, gag), he got glassy-eyed and started rasing his voice.  I calmly pointed out to him that he was raising his voice, and went back to the subject, which he obviously had trouble handling. duh.

Don't be afraid of these CSPAN rock stars.  When they get up in the morning, they have nasty bad breath, they look like hell, and they go in the necessary room and what happens in there ain't pretty.  Their feet are made out of the same clay as yours and mine.  ; - )
