  •  No need for a lack of integrity if the system's (0+ / 0-)

    corrupt.

CMD just looks at public record.  Even if everybody on the site you're pointing to are sincere and capable scientists, they're in a field that is dominated by corporate funding of research.

Ag is not exceptional in this regard; pharma, geology and many other fields get much or most of their money either from corporate sponsors that are not disinterested donors, people who have a financial interest in these companies, and in many cases, public money from state and federal agencies where you can see clear regulatory capture.

I don't know your professional background, but you seem pretty invested in this personally.  Much more than I am, frankly.  But consider this: in a field where most research is sponsored by people who have a financial interest if research lowers stock prices, are you seriously claiming that this does not affect what research get funded, what chairs in university departments get endowed, and who gets and who does not get tenure?

Even if everyone in these departments personally has integrity, some research is getting done, and some very definitely is not.  Part of the problem in the whole GMO field is there is very little money for research which is not corporate sponsored, or at least very corporate friendly.  I'd be the first to agree that there's a lot of garbage out there on the activist driven, anti-GMO side.  But if you really think that a young PhD. can readily do research that makes things difficult for the people who pay the freight, you're very naive indeed.

Before you bitch about the CMD stuff, at least read some of it.  You don't have to buy what their whole argument to see that they have a point on this issue.  Trust Us, We're Experts is a very good place to start.

    •  Nobody is pure enough for anything anymore (0+ / 0-)

You are tossing accusations on these people in the same way the climate deniers do--scientists are all corrupted by money for grants anyway, you can't trust any of them in any field, peer-review is a joke, and on and on.

I would say one of the more insidious things they have done is undermined confidence in the scientific process. You are doing the same thing.

As someone else asked elsewhere: who would you trust for the information then? what sources would you require to have absolute purity that you seem to need?
