  •  I still heart Kerry too (none)
I guess I started off as an ABB, though that I would vote for whomever got the Dem nomination was pretty much a given. I can't say I really started to take a hard look at Kerry until the summer. By the time the debates rolled around I was very much voting for Kerry, not against Bush (though obviously I wanted him gone desperately). I actually started crying during the third debate when Kerry was talking about how he doesn't believe that his beliefs can be legislated on others who don't share them (re: gay marriage and abortion) and for his catagorical acknowledgement that being gay is not a choice. It was so refreshing to hear after the crap Bush was spewing that I actually burst into tears.

That was the most painfull thing about 11/3, it was more than just loosing the election (though I believe there was fraud), more than having to deal with at least another 4 years of Bush et al. It was the loss of the hope that Kerry had inspired and loss of this incredibly thoughtfull man as our leader. (Ok that and the unsettling thought of where our society is headed...)

I still love Kerry - voting for him was one of the proudest political moments of my life - and I think there are a lot of people here who do too, just look at the diary a while back in Dec with the picture of Kerry attending a soldier's funeral. Frankly the proactive role he's been taking (and other Dems: Boxer, Dean, etc) is one of the only reasons I'm not ready to flee back to Canada. And a lot of my friends, who are far less political than I, still like him. Just the other day we were joking about how he should have dueled Bush for the presidency and calling him our "Almighty Tallest" (this is a reference to a cartoon called Invader Zim, which has a race of aliens who are very small, so their "tallest" people are their leaders. Yes, we're easily amused.)

As for 2008 I'm keeping my options open. Who knows what the political landscape will look like then, who knows if we'll even get elections (that's the pessimist in me talking)? I would support whoever I think the best person is at that time and if that happens to be Kerry I would be quite happy to vote for him again.
