    The fact that in voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004 as well gives the impression of at least a blue leaning state.  Add to that that Toomey is nothing more than a Santorum clone and it all just seems odd.

      At the state and local level, its a whole different story.

        Right, I know PA has been described as "two big cities with Alabama in the middle" but a lot of people don't look past the presidential level.

        Also, a lot of people looked at Santorum as a bit of a fluke -- first elected in the Repug year of 1994, and reelected in 2000 due to a weak opponent.

        I would hope that if both the unions and the Phiily suburbs can be made to realize that Toomey is nothing but Santorum II a race can be made out of this, but who knows?
