    nothing and a lunatic to about the same degree that Sarah Palin is and has been for the past two years. Or maybe worse, if you count Lyndon Johnson's nuke-the-kids TV ad.

    I remember those times.

    Who was it that legitimated and enabled the post-Goldwater right wing? A lot of people, actually, including Presidents Nixon and Reagan, televangelists, Fox News, and unscrupulous political operators like Lee Atwater and Karl Rove. The road that led from Goldwater in 1964 to Palin in 2008 is a long one.

      the Tea Party is ever going to have among youth and an ethnically diverse electorate. In the future will there be a xenophobe Reagan inheriting the movement and winning the White House? Only one thing can make this possible: the American Left in disarray, letting a dedicated minority win elections.
