    a) Democrats are perfectly capable of turning people off.

Democratic communication strategy could turn a milquetoast Healthcare Reform Bill that Bob Dole would love into Communism, Socialism, Fascism and puppy killing all in one.  They got so owned on this issue, even moderate mainstream types were naming bargains as if they were sexual positions.  I'm sorry, I don't trust Democratic election professionals to win an unopposed election.  In that case a Republican that makes Bush look moderate wins and the country suffers.

    b) Crazy Republicans actually allow for worse Democrats.

Have you ever used or been the recipient of "I know you hate candidate X but what are you going to do, you only have one rational vote here"?

This was used on me during the primary wars and my response was seriously hostile.  Employing this strategy constantly allows primaries to happen without consequence.  This allows the Ben Nelsons of the world to ignore people at the grassroots.

    c) Crazy Republicans actually make mainstream Republicans crazier.

I'm hearing things out of the standard issue 1987 Republican (not the Alex P. Keaton types) that make me absolutely shudder and keep in mind this is at church functions.  This is going to have deep societal impact in ways not merely political.

The adjective that applies to Christine O'Donnell is not "DiVinyl".
