it's the economy and not much else. What we complain about is immaterial.

    For example from ABC:

Also, very few, 9 percent, identify "the way Washington works" as one of the single most important issues in their vote preference. Other options – local issues, taxes, Afghanistan, immigration, the deficit and health care – are called one of the single top issues by anywhere from 8 to 19 percent. Many more call the economy one of the single most important issues, 31 percent.

Adding in the next tier, "very important," the economy swells to 93 percent, followed by health care, called very important or more by 82 percent, and the deficit, by 76 percent.

    •  I'm talking about the activist base like us (0+ / 0-)

The people who, ya know, do all the work that wins elections.

      •  but that's not the wider world (1+ / 0-)

        •  Alas . . . (0+ / 0-)

We've already lost many of our activists.

The ones who do the GOTV work in that wider world . . . .

And it wasn't the Repugs who took them away.

          •  Lots of activists have given up (0+ / 0-)

Becuase the Democrats didn't get a bunch of perfect bills passed, mainly due to the 60 vote threshold in the Senate.

            •  and lots have given up because of what the (0+ / 0-)

Dems DID pass----------such as a Republican-written welfare bill for the health insurance companies, renewing the PATRIOT act, dickering around on DADT until they got desperate for something to try to save their ass, selling out to Wall Street lobbyists, telecomm immunity, and defending the "unitary Presidency" in Federal court.

Not exactly things I'd want to be active for.

"Perfect bills"?  Nah, I don't need "Perfect bills".  But DEMOCRATIC bills would be nice.

Or don't we actually stand for anything anymore, beyond pragmatically winning the next election.
