  •  I'm an old fart. (5+ / 0-)

I remember when Democrats ran on positive policies that would benefit the poor and middle class.  I remember when the party enthusiastically backed Labor, women, African-Americans and Hispanics.  I remember when corporations were attacked rather than coddled.  In short, I remember when Democrats wooed their base rather than spurning it.

In fact, I'm such an old fart that I remember a Democratic candidate crushing his opponent by running on a slogan of "Hope and Change."  Two years later and Dems are running on "Fear and the Status Quo."

Feingold would be in a better position if he could say, "Vote Democratic and we'll turn Wisconsin's economy around."  But since national Democrats think fighting purely defensive battles against Republicans -- and accepting 10% unemployment as the status quo -- is the key to electoral success, I'd say, sadly, that Russ is going to lose.

Didn't vote against their own President for insufficient purity.  Saint Russ the Good has outfoxed himself.

Feingold's purity may have seemed attractive to all Democrats when Bush was in charge, but under Obama he's seen as a prima donna by many Democrats, myself included.

Result:  he kept all his leadership positions and the Obama White House keeps sucking up to him.

The problem isn't Feingold, though occasionally he infuriates me.  The problem is Senators like Lieberman, Nelson, Landrieu, and the "leadership" of Harry Reid.

    •  I'm afraid Russ is going to get (0+ / 0-)

voted out just for being an incumbent.  People are in a "throw the bums out" mood and they are going to stupidly throw out the good one with the bums.

All other hoped-for outcomes for the betterment of this nation flow from the bedrock of Good Government.
