    The republicans aren't nominating generic republicans: in a deeply divided party, it's running someone from a specific group that's hated by all the others.  As long as people are thinking of some disembodied hypothetical republican, the teapartier can assume it's a teapartier, the big business guy can assume it's a big business guy, the religious can assume it's some religious person, etc.  It's the reality of actual humans that will kill the GOP.

    Some feel more comfortable with the certainty that comes from losing power and letting republicans stab them in the front. It's a failure of nerve.
