  •  thank god for that (0+ / 0-)

Racial segregation was a policy, not a law like DADT.

DADT itself allows for the suspension of DADT, no Congressional action necessary.  Next?

    Truman was White

Truman won a nailbiter of an election - remember this?  Whereas Obama won a landslide election with almost 10 million more votes than his opponent.  Next?

and did not have to deal with a horrible economy

Truman had to deal with Nazis, imperial Japan, newly communist China, Stalin, and the emergence of nuclear weapons.  Next?

    largest oil spill in history

An entirely preventable oil spill - if Obama had paid any attention to MMS, appointed someone other than a tool of the energy industry like Salazar, or heeded warnings on offshore oil drilling.  Next?

    immigration concerns

Truman had the guts to desegregate the military via executive order.  Obama can't be bothered to halt DADT when he has two magic legislative wands to do so, and even a majority of Republican voters favor ending DADT.  As for immigration, he could follow his hero's lead, and declare amnesty for immigrants a la Reagan in the 80's.  Next?

Truman didn't get automatically blamed for things that bigoted Republicans did, as Obama is blamed for Republican obstructionism.

Truman famously said "The Buck Stops Here".  Democrats famously make excuses and blame a powerless minority for their own failures.  Next?

I haven't seen a single comment on this entire thread pointing to the historic nature of the Republican obstructionism.

Because that Republican obstruction is a distraction, not the problem.  Obama's cowardice on the issue is the problem.  Next?

Just the same justified attacks on Barack Obama.

Fixed that for you.  Obama flat out promised to be a "fierce advocate for gay rights" and to end DADT.  He's sat on both.
