  •  I agree - I was 'semi-flamed' in another thread (10+ / 0-)

    because of this.  A poster was talking about feeling bad because of some bad things going on in his life.  A couple of people said "See your doctor about anti-depressants."  When I pointed out why this WASN'T a good idea I got some pissed off comments.

    That didn't bother me, it was the general ignorance about what depression that was bothersome.  It's those easy answers and uninformed advice that can often be destructive to people suffering from depression because it just confuses things and makes denial of their condition more likely.

      in my case, but difficult circumstances in my life, generally, have made me dread the advice of certain friends for just this reason:

      Damn, I am not interested in your "expertise" (how ever "impressive" it may be :) but in your open heart and mind and willingness to listen un-dividedly.
