  •  My main argument with charter schools is simply (9+ / 0-)

    who are they beholden to?

Public schools, ultimately, are the creatures of the surrounding population. School boards are elected from the district.

Public schools are not, in any way, for-profit institutions. Their only raison d'etre is to educate.

As soon as charter schools can say the same, in every case, I'll consider them worth considering.

There are myriad other arguments, such as the fact that statistically they are no better than public schools -- and spare me the "but good ones are!" argument; in aggregate, they are no better.

I sure wish my government gave me as much privacy as they demand I give them.
