Let the Faux Noise hordes break upon our massed shields and spears.

Democrats? Massed? Facing the same direction and moving with discipline?

    •  War Metaphors (0+ / 0-)

Metaphors are VERY often misleading in a political context.  Especially sports, car, and military metaphors.

One could just as easily use a metaphor of individual low-tech snipers and other isolated individuals in countless occupied territories who have defeated larger armies over time just by sticking to their guns, knowing that losses are inevitable - and that guerrilla tactics actually minimize those losses over time compared to fighting in strict units.

But that's why metaphors are misleading - they improperly mix the logic up to "prove" a point that is only selectively matching in both cases.

Politics are not literal war - the logic is inherently different, and thinking of politics as war distorts your logic in how you treat others in politics.  And not usually in a good way.

Unfortunately, was metaphors are often quite appropriate, imo. Politics is simply a more civilized form in our nation. It would ideal if we could grow beyond it. But I don't see that happening in the near future.
