  •  "It is not genetic." (2+ / 0-)

Really?  There is more and more evidence everyday that there is a genetic basis to autism.  The defects typically affect neuronal function at the cellular and molecular level.  Here's a google scholar search for "genetic basis for autism".

Don't tell me there's no genetic basis for autism.  And for the record I have a child who is on the autism spectrum.

and I do not mean to be offensive. I think that the chemical load we all carry.. at last count 273 human-developed (largely for-profit corporate) compounds not found in nature, has a profound effect on the immunological responses of many people. The occurence of many, if not most immunological responses has escalated in parallel with Corporate Chemical Pushing in America. Science on these complex interactions is far behind the reality, which most basic research scientists admit. This is likely multi-causal, the most difficult kinds of problems to unravel.

Males seem to be more succeptible than females. The effects range from almost undetectable to profound. My nephew also suffers from this, and all the family is either in health care, education, or psychology, so there has been a lot of research we have done to find the best kinds of remediation.

I would not want my nephew to run for office. His politics are definitely more.. conservative.. than most of us, and his ability to trust others is lower. His reactions to irritations are much stronger, and so, we must remember that no one has a monopoly on this topic. We are all still trying to figure it out. I would hate for people to think a disability with a primarily environmental cause is based on genetics, because we have been down that road before. We continue to act as if everything is genetic and therefore "out of our control" when it is becoming apparent that we are our own worst enemy when it comes to pollution of the body. We CAN do something about this, and the sooner the better.

Given the meteoric rise in the numbers of people with this condition, I and many others strongly believe that genetics is not the primary trigger for this condition. Something has changed, and we have changed it.
