    Catch 90% of the users, leave them more vulnerable to hacking and anyone sophisticated will work around it.

    I am one of those people--I can likely get around any back-door mechanism built into a communications device. So, unless such attempts themselves are outlawed--possible, but difficult to enforce in practice--only the "rest of you" will be affected negatively.

    Which, to me, is all the more reason to fight this--it shouldn't be the case that only those of us who know how to avoid monitoring can rest easy in their privacy.
