Yes, Alaskans get a nice check each year because of clauses in old oil and mineral contracts. But the new contracts being discussed, for ANWR and the like, contain no such clauses.

    •  Then why does support for it (0+ / 0-)

Seem to be so mainstream in Alaska?  What's the case for it that's so strong that it seems like every politician in the state favors it?

      •  because it would provide (0+ / 0-)

a lot of revenue for the state, one assumes?

      •  Because Oil Corps Fund Them (0+ / 0-)

Politicians aren't supporting ANWR because it gives a couple thousand to each Alaskan. They're supporting it because the oil corps give many thousands directly to the politicians.

would argue that it should not be, we would be better off under the terms set by McAdams than we would for any other Alaskan Congressperson we have ever had or could have.

Yes, you're right. The Alaskan senator is not going to be the deciding vote in whether to drill ANWR, nor should they be in that national refuge. Better to start with Alaska's terms mild than from some bilking Teabagger like Miller.

But the position McAdams posted here is still BS, and I cannot be expected to pretend it's not. Otherwise that mild BS will have succeeded in bringing me closer to the "compromise": drilling ANWR in whatever terms, which is unacceptable and totally unnecessary.
