    They can't make you pay if you show up to vote in person.

    Isn't there some kind of equal protection/voting rights act protection against this kind of charge for some voters rather than others?

    I imagine the state's response is that it was your choice (and convenience) to vote from home, and that there's no constitutional/access right to a ballot-by-mail.

    But still, WTF? It does seem wrong to me.

      choosing to vote from home, but is away from home on legitimate business and unable to appear personally. Think about ex-pats, and, best of all, let's wrap this up in the flag a little and include all our service members throughout the world.
      Including college students and active duty military in the same class action would give the election officials fits.
