  •  Doesn't "biomass" mean burning garbage and (0+ / 0-)

    other organic waste to generate electricity? How does that reduce atmospheric carbon?

      bringing sequestered carbon (fossil fuels) to the surface and polluting the atmosphere with them.

      Burning "garbage," as you put it, prevents some from being converted to a far more potent greenhouse gas, methane.

      In addition some carbon is sequestered after burning.  The McNeil Generating Station in Burlington, VT, sells the ash for a soil amendment and inclusion in building cement.
