  •  I grew up in a small town, and am raising my (5+ / 0-)

daughters in the Big City, which has its share of challenges. However, I will take the City any day of the week-- small towns, with all their good points (neighborliness, relative safety for kids, etc) can be festering pockets of intolerance, too.

If you are at all "different," you can be teased & bullied at worst, or shunned, which can feel like it's the worst, when you're a kid. In the city, you can find like-minded kids, and outlets for unusual interests/talents.

Sometimes being isolated in the country can be scarier than being in the city, sorrounded by people.
