I belong to a Democratic organization in Texas.

A while back, we voted on what goals we would be working on this year.

Someone suggested a moratorium on executions until more studies can be done to determine their efficacy.  In other words, let's not kill any more convicted criminals until we have some solid evidence that it actually helps stop crime.

Not a vote to ban the death penalty in Texas, you understand. Just a vote to hold off killing any more people while we studied the situation.

    It was voted down. Incredible.

I had one elderly member of the group tell me that after being convicted of a death penalty crime, a prisoner should have one year to appeal. Once the year is up, execution proceeds.

This despite mounting evidence that the death penalty does nothing to stop serious crime and innocent people are being executed.

    This from "progressives."

Freedom has two enemies: Those who want to control everyone around them...and those who feel no need to control themselves.
