    in a democracy, I'm just pointing out that our democracy is alive and well, despite our egregious pledge of allegiance.

    So, your title is unnecesarily inflammatory.

      Where the issue does differ is that the Pledge of Allegiance has no formal standing in US politics or law.  An oath which does have standing is the Oath of Allegiance administered during the US naturalization process, which any natural born citizen would have no trouble accepting either.  Perhaps the Israeli legislation should be changed to focus on the Israeli constitution and Israeli laws along similar lines to the US Oath of Allegiance.  Of course, that doesn't make it the wedge issue which some seem to desire, nor a tool with which to scuttle the peace talks.
