    because you don't know until you go through the house room by room. There was a recent fire here where a child died. The father got all the kids out of the house... or so he thought. One of his teenagers was supposed to sleep at a friends house that night but came home late and died asleep in the basement.

    I do and don't particularly hold the fire department culpable here. On the one hand there is only so much they can do and only so much territory any one department can be held responsible for covering. On the other hand their job is to put out fires... period... and it appears that they were responsible for this particular area.

    What I fault fully, based on my limited knowledge of this case, is such a piss poor fire protection and management arrangement by that community as a whole.
