suffer throughout their entire lives, while presumably these animals had a good life up to the last 5 or 10 minutes.

Just saying, it strikes me odd that you'd be concerned about these particular animals - which overall had a good life - compared to animals that suffer throughout their entire lives.

Once your final moments arrive, maybe you can arrange to burn to death instead of whatever it is that's ailing you?  You know, put your money where your mouth is.

I  mean, what's the big deal?  Overall, you'd have "had a good life up to the last 5 or 10 minutes."  What's a little terror and soul-searing pain?

      Nice.

a final 5 to 10 minutes of terror and soul-searing pain (it happens either way)with

a lifetime of being cooped up in cage smaller than you are, being force fed shit (literally!) and antibiotics

        OR

a lifetime living basically as you do now.

Once I see that you've opted for the former, get back to me with the "money where your mouth is" stuff.

I never made the false equivalence you're claiming I did.  In fact, you're the one who did so.  Go figure.

My challenge still stands:  Put your money where your mouth is, and immolate yourself in your last minutes in this life.  If you're not willing to do that, stop trying to defend the indefensible.

for food suffer throughout their entire lives.

I just sent my five pigs off to the butcher's today.

They had a wonderful life while they were on the farm.

Free to roam, free to run, well fed and happy.

      Your generalization is ridiculous.

As is your basic premise that the Cranicks and their animals deserved their fate all for the want of a 75 dollar bill they forgot to pay.

The fire department sat there and watched the house burn down.

      That is unconscionable.

The mark of a sick society, when paying a bill on time is more important than the lives of someone's pets.

      •  Sure, not all animals do (0+ / 0-)

but *most* animals raised for food in the USA are raised under factory farming conditions

I see that there's another extant diary discussing this issue (with most DK'ers who are bothering to respond slamming PETA's latest effort to bring attention to this issue).

It seems like on many levels we live in a very barbaric country on many levels, as vividly illustrated by this - an obstensibly progressive community - foursquare behind horrendous animal cruelty.
