    That's not how Harvard specifies the value added model.  Classes are not normalized for student population, either from teacher to teacher or from school to school.  The underlying assumption is the problem, however; variations in score cannot be directly attributed to the teacher, even in the aggregate.

      I assumed the scores would be normalized because if they were then it could be a reasonable method.
