with no DSL, no cable, no cellphone, no nothin'. I have HughesNet and I have yet to figure how the 200mgb 24 hour limit works exactly because it seems to slide hourly not go from say midnight to midnight. Dial-up is much slower and yes we are spending more than we like but until something changes we are stuck. I got HughesNet's meter that keeps track (w/o having to go to the system screen) of the mgbs used because I was going over regularly. When they cut your access back Huffington Post won't load. It is ridiculous. And forget about streaming movies--even the most expensive plan would seem not to accommodate it. Oh and also forget uploading anything.

was better than that... The problems I heard were weather-related, high initial amount for purchase of equipment, and high monthly cost.
Hey-here's an idea...talk to a cell phone company or 2, there maybe a chance they'd put up a cell tower on your property if you have enough neighbors within a certain distance. I know of one dude who did that-although he isn't as rural as you-and makes a good amount of cash per month leasing them the site. just a thought...
By the way, my nearest neighbor is 1/3 mile away, how about you? I live outside of Durango, CO, where the Rockies meet the desert.
