    I once held something very similar when I was in Costa Rica, only its back legs were even bigger and covered with even longer, pointier spines.  It kept jerking its legs in a way that drove the spines directly into my fingers.  When I realized that these motions were deliberate and were not going to stop, I gave it its freedom.
