  •  German Teen Magazines (none)
I used to travel to Germany on business.  Once I brought home a teen magazine (equivalent to Seventeen or YM) for my daughter.  Since it was in German, she flipped through it rather quickly.  Soon I hear, "Oh, Mother, did you even look at this magazine before you bought it for me?"  I guess I hadn't.  "There's a photo of a boy without any clothes on.  It's gross."  Oh.  "Don't you know those Europeans are much more casual about sex than we are?"  I guess I didn't think about that.

There were a couple lessons in this story.  First was that this was just a photo of a regular boy with a regular body.  I think that helps Europeans with their comfort in their own bodies.  I'll bet there's less anorexia too.  Second, having that stuff out there solves some of the curiosity issues.

It is a great story for my daughter to use when she wants to embarass me.
