  •  Agreed, but the diarist (5+ / 0-)

is engaging in ginning up outrage, not providing the quote in context, which is far less inflammatory as he implies in the diary itself.

Stupid words, and she needs to be educated about it, but the context is clearly supportive.

now that I see it.  I'm out of this diary.

America simply does not need the [GOP] as ... currently constituted. If it cannot reform itself, it needs to die. - Brad DeLong

And out since I was 22.

I hope you wouldn't dismiss my viewpoint if I were straight, though.

        •  I was asking... (0+ / 0-)

...in advance of trying to find out if you had had the experience of being condemned as choosing your sexual orientation your whole life.

Since no straight people view themselves as having chosen their sexual orientation, yes, I would dismiss the viewpoint of a straight person telling gay people to get over being told it was a choice.

based entirely on the logic of the arguments themselves, not on the identity of those making them.

To insist straight people show us immediate and error-free understanding while at the same time saying it's impossible for straight people to ever understand us seems a bit contradictory to me.

...to recognize that straight people who have never thought of their being straight as a choice have no right to tell gay people that their being gay is a choice and that they shouldn't be upset whenever a straight person says it.

Does anyone know of an etymology for the word "lifestyle"? As I remember, it was manufactured and introduced in our language in the mid-eighties as a love the sin, hate the sinner type of deal.

But I can't find a history of it, and I would like to have it to educate people.

Anyone know where i could find that?
