  •  If you barely challenge Angle (8+ / 0-)

..on any of her lunacy you're giving her a free pass. Harry Reid somehow managed that feat tonight. While he was reciting the scripture of policy wonkishness, Angle kept spouting her nonsense, her absurd policy backpeddling, and at times outright lying. Reid barely laid a glove on her for it.

Harry Reid's sad ass performance tonight is the type that can lose elections, from an electorate that already doesn't like him.

The only real question is do Nevadans want crazy Sharron Angle as their senator. Instead of merely repeating "extreme" ad nauseum Harry Reid might have reminded voters what she really did say, and what she means to them.

if you can say Angle kept spouting nonsense and backpeddled, while Reid was offering policy facts, then haven't you in fact said Reid won?  That he approached the debate with informative answers rather than snarling at her with backhanded remarks shouldn't matter.  At least not to me.

I really do believe Reid came off the informed and experienced candidate, and she came off clueless and practiced with her pat answers.

In effect, I think his answers put hers to shame, and she revealed she doesn't know what she's talking about.

I'm not worried about that debate.  Nevada has been saturated with her for so many months, and the people of Nevada know Harry has experience from his long years in the Senate, but with Angle there's just one big question mark above her head.

If Nevada votes Reid out of office, I believe it will say more about the voters than it does about the debate or Harry Reid.  And that is what scares me.  Have voters become prey to the GOP because they are not intellectually curious and don't seem to care to get to the truth anymore?

      •  It's not a contest on who knows policy (3+ / 0-)

If your opponent doesn't know what she's talking about then say so, and firmly. Reid didn't.

Angle didn't have to do anything at all tonight other than look like she belonged on the same stage with Reid. And somehow Harry Reid manged to let her do just that.

In such a close race sometimes the person who looks like they want it more ends up winning. It really doesn't matter whether they deserve it or not.

were about defending your own propositions, and yes sometimes a debate can get heated, but I don't necessarily believe that Harry felt he had to attack her, instead he went after her by offering a factual argument with is a technique of persuasion.  His judgment won over her inventions about the issues.  I mean, what in the world does that woman really know about any of the issues that were brought up except her own invented opinions.  And she also showed how often she's contradicted her own assertions about the issues, too.  At one point Harry pointed out that she didn't answer the question.  He didn't even have to do that for the thinkers in the audience, they got it, but he pointed it out and then went on to offer the facts.

But obviously you feel different, and that's okay.  ,)

He called her out several times.  He corrected her on Social Security, said her "facts" were wrong, told her to stop scaring seniors.

He also called her out on her false claims about his votes on immigration.  He also explicitly corrected false information in a question about health care reform.
