    The dynamics of inner party, outer party and proles could easily recapitulate the more finely graded class distinctions of a 'capitalist' state.

    Inner party = ultra elites, outer party = lower upper class and upper middle class and proles = general subdivisions of middle and lower classes.

    Also, self monitoring and self censorship occurs constantly in our media (as Chomsky notes); the suspicion of "unorthodoxy" (either in politics or lifestyle or demeanor) is a handicap in many corporate roles...

    I never found 1984 to be applicable solely o socialist or communist states. Not even all that interesting to view it through that prism.
