Hoyer is #2. Pelosi became leader because she was #2 when Gephardt left.

On the Senate, Schumer has already sealed up the top spot with no input from the grassroots.

The fact that the Pentagon has plans for a war with France does not mean the US wants or is planning on an invasion - planning for contingencies is a good idea as a general principle.

Durbin and Obama are both from Ill.  .. I think Schumer is more likely regardless

on the France thing. What are you talking about, war plans against France? They are part of NATO.

I'm in the I-fucking-love-this-guy wing of the Democratic Party!

      •  Plan. Not intent. (0+ / 0-)

I recall a news conference shortly after the August 1990 invasion of Kuwait by Iraq.  Some military spokesman was asked by a member of the media of the United States had contingency plans for such an situation.  The spokesman smiled and said that countries with global force-projection capability had contingency plans for virtually everything.  He went on to say that he had no knowledge of of any such plans, we could all bet that France, for example (his example) had contingency plans for occupying the United States.  And such an eventuality would have to be considered far less likely, and useful, than an American defense of Kuwait.  His long way of saying "Of course we have plans for such a possibility".

Conversely, you can bet that the United States military has plans fleshed out to some degree for an invasion of France, however unlikely such an eventuality would ever become desired.

Recall the Rainbow Plans of yesteryear:

Not to mention Defence Scheme No. 1 (a Canada plan for a pre-emptive invasion of the United States drawn up in 1921):

        Militaries plan for everything.

    •  That's speculation. Both Schumer and Durbin (0+ / 0-)

are positioning themselves for Majority Leader if Harry Reid is defeated.  They might also run if Reid ISN'T defeated.

I'm getting ready to go phone-banking which is the productive thing to do.
