    carries a lot of costs both on the society and the workers themselves. Considering that someone 20 years ago can work for McDonald's with a high school diploma, they can start earn a living right after high school. They can save some of that money to do other things and meanwhile can advance their career early.

    Nowadays to get the same job you would spend tens of thousands and a few years in college. So at the moment they start that job they would have a debt. Also a lot of those students received public subsidy of one form or another for education.

    They went through college because they were promised that doing so would allow them to have better jobs and income. That promise has not been fulfilled. Now the folks who are unable to go to college get the shaft because employers can fill those same position with overqualified workers.
