road politiking would/does/will go a long way in countering the remorseless and so destructive lowest-possible-road politiking that Rs embrace and use so effectively.  It would set them back more than a few steps and create some political space.

This is brilliant (and long overdue).  Most of them are so "glass house" vulnerable but never get called on it.

On the other hand, and maybe OT, when Reid calls what's her name an "extremist" it's a compliment instead of an insult.  I'm so amazed that he doesn't get that tactics that work on the progressive left, enhance and embolden the positions and voice of the regressive right.

It's the wrong message to send to people who are fond of Goldwater's famous saying that extremism in defense of liberty is no vice, along with the wretched subtext that accompanied it.

If Reid wants to push the pre-programmed linguistic buttons of the far right, the words he needs to use are "subversive" and "radical". He might also want to make a little more hay about the fact that Angle is unemployed and living off her husband's federal pension, not unlike a surprising number of other teabagger candidates who might be obliged to do something more productive with their time if they weren't sponging off federal entitlement programs -- to use a few more hot-button wingnut terms.

"How does Sharron Angle earn a living? She doesn't. You earn it for her."

Of course, painting Angle as a right wing welfare queen is way over the top, to say nothing of the fact that most of us on the left have no problem with federal pensions, but the left is already voting against Angle. The job that Reid and other embattled Democrats need to accomplish is getting the wingnuts to vote against her, too, and that involves speaking their language, complete with the reflexive jargon and catchphrases and actual (or simulated) emotion.

If Democrats can figure out how to do that without selling their souls in the process, we'll be laughing all the way to the polls.

Yes we can! The president, however, I'm not so sure about.
