  •  Williams 1st Amendment rights are still intact... (14+ / 0-)

...he can still freely express his opinions, he just lost the privilege of being paid by NPR to express his opinion on their teevee and radio outlets.

The constitution grants individuals the right to express their opinion. But there is no right to have the media supply a forum for your opinions. Otherwise we would all get to be on the teevee everytime we have something to say.

Not only are most of us subjected to the indignity of not being allowed to appear on TV as a talking head, but worse yet, nobody pays us to say what we think. For most of us, free speech really is free.

Every network has plenty of applicants who want to appear on their programs. Every network applies its own criteria to the selection of staff who appear on air, and who get paid to do so.

No network--not NPR, not Fox--just puts the names of all the applicants in a hat and hires the ones whose names are drawn.
