    •  CPB was effectively the parent of NPR and PBS (0+ / 0-)

      Those three were all founded at the same time by the Johnson administration, and through the 70's just about all of NPR was underwritten by CPB.  They restructured in the 80's to become less dependent on the CPB, partly from the Reagan-era hostility to public broadcasting, but also in large part because they really were being run very poorly.  

      NPR stations still get anywhere from 10% of their revenue from CPB all the way up to more than half, depending on the radio market they serve.
